NBK London holds a seminar on the New Tax Law in UK
National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) branch in London recently held a seminar in London to explain to its clients the recent changes in UK income tax law affecting non domiciled residents. The seminar was hosted by NBK Chief Executive Officer, Isam Jasem Al Sager, who explained to the attending clients that the purpose behind holding the seminar, which hosted as its principal guest speaker, lawyer Robert Blower, a highly regarded expert in non-domiciliary tax affairs and consultant with the prominent Charles Russell law firm, was to explain the recent changes to the tax legislation that have been a matter of concern since they were announced a year ago. Blower explained that the new law, although it was only officially signed by Queen Elizabeth on July 21, 2008 had actually been in effect the beginning of the current fiscal year on April 6, 2008. He added that the legislation concerns UK residents who are not British subjects, and has no effect on visitors or non-resident of the UK. Visitors to the country are considered residents if they spend more than 183 days in the UK within one fiscal year or spend an average of 91 days or more a year for four consecutive years. Fawzi Al-Dajani, Assistant General Manager st NBK London said that visitors should pay due attention to the number of days they spend in the UK as the new law will not affect those who make short visits, but if the visits extend to three months, visitors should register the arrival and departure dates to avoid being considered residents. On her part, Anwar Al-Hamad, Assistant General Manager Private Banking Group, lauded the seminar and its vital importance to NBK clients, stressing that it provides another testament of NBK's endeavor to provide its clients with the best services. The seminar was concluded with a session of questions which were addressed by Blower and other speakers and followed by a special dinner party.
