What does NBK do?

National Bank of Kuwait S.A.K.P., has branches, subsidiaries and representative offices in a number of countries, including most of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, UK and France.

NBK Bahrain is a branch of National Bank of Kuwait S.A.K.P. Our banking services include current and deposit accounts, FX services, property finance, trade finance and letters of credit and guarantees for corporate customers.

What personal information does NBK collect and why?

The personal information that we may collect about you broadly falls into the following categories:

From time to time, we may receive personal information about you from third party sources (including credit reference agencies, World Checking services, other banks who provide references on you), but only where we have checked that these third parties either have your consent or are otherwise legally permitted or required to disclose your personal information to us.

Who does NBK share my personal data with?

Legal basis for processing personal information

Our legal basis for collecting and using the personal information described above will depend on the personal information concerned and the specific context in which we collect it.

However, we will normally collect personal information from you only where we have your consent to do so, where we need the personal information to perform a contract with you, or where the processing is in our legitimate interests and not overridden by your data protection interests or fundamental rights and freedoms. Direct marketing

We will provide you with choices regarding certain Personal Data uses, particularly around marketing and advertising. We may use your Identity, Contact, Technical, Usage and Profile Data to identify potential services which may be of interest to you.

We will provide you an option to opt-in to our marketing activities (including newsletters, promotions, new service update, etc.) at the time of registering for the services. Existing customers who are already registered in our systems, will continue to receive our marketing communications unless they opt-out.

We will request your express consent before we share your Personal Data with any company outside NBK group for marketing purposes.

You can ask us to stop sending you marketing communications by contacting us at any time. You may still receive messages for a short period of time until updated marketing preferences are set

Does NBKI transfer my personal data outside Bahrain?

Your personal information may be transferred to and processed outside Bahrain. These countries may have data protection laws that are different to the laws of your country (and, in some cases, may not be as protective). NBK-B will only disclose your personal information to group companies and third parties that have agreed in writing to provide privacy protection in line with this privacy notice.

We may need to transfer this data outside Bahrain for providing uninterrupted services to you (e.g., core banking through our group companies and affiliates overseas). We minimize the personal information that is transferred outside Bahrain.

How does NBKI keep my personal information secure?

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect the personal information that we collect and process about you. The measures we use are designed to provide a level of security appropriate to the risk of processing your personal information. Specific measures we use include, however not limited to:

  • physical access control systems
  • a physical security presence
  • logical access controls (such as passwords)
  • perimeter security systems (such as firewalls)

Additionally, Data is shared within NBKI (including employees, contractors, agents, etc.) on a need-to-know basis and under strict confidentiality arrangements.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach. In the event that we are required by law to inform you of any unauthorized access to your personal data we may notify you electronically, in writing, or by telephone. We will also notify any applicable regulator of a data breach where we are legally required to do so.

Data retention

We retain personal information we collect from you as long as necessary for the purpose for which it is collected and to meet legal, regulatory and operational requirements (for example, to provide you with a service you have requested or to comply with applicable regulatory, legal, tax or accounting requirements).

When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize it or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.

This Notice explains how National Bank of Kuwait S.A.K.P (hereafter referred to as "we" or “our” or "us" or “NBK”) uses cookies in the web pages of our website at www.NBK.com ("Website"). It explains what these cookies are and why we use them.

We respect the data privacy rights of individuals and are committed to handling personal data appropriately and in accordance with applicable laws. It is important that you read this Recruitment Notice along with the Privacy Notice and Cookie Notice carefully as it sets out how we handle your personal data when you apply for a job or other role with us and the rights you have in connection with that data collected. The term "applicants" is used in this Recruitment Notice to refer to anyone who applies for a job role, or who otherwise seeks to work with or for us (whether on a permanent or temporary basis).

The types of personal data we collect and process when you apply for a role with NBK includes (but is not limited to):

Generally, during the recruitment process, we do not ask for or process any “Sensitive Personal Information (SPI)”: data that reveals your racial or ethnic origin, religious, political or philosophical beliefs or trade union membership; genetic data; biometric data for the purposes of unique identification; or data concerning your health / personal life unless required by applicable laws or where necessary to comply with applicable laws.

However, in certain circumstances, you may provide, on a voluntary basis, “Sensitive Personal Information (SPI)” during the recruitment process, for example your CV may state that your interests include activities involving a particular religious group or a group which espouses particular political of philosophical views.
